Long-Term Care Insurance

Will you surrender most of your assets for nursing or hospice care?

 About the Program

Long-term care insurance helps you prepare for the broad-range of maintenance and health services required for the chronically ill, disabled, or mentally retarded. Long-term care services may be provided on an inpatient (rehabilitation facility, nursing home, and mental hospital), outpatient, or at-home basis.
The cost of long-term care in New England currently averages up to $75,000 per year for an average period of three years. Medicaid and Medicare cover some of the expense, but coverage is for an extremely limited group of people and only covers a minimal portion of the expense.
Paying for the high cost of long-term care without sufficient planning could compromise investments that were intended for other purposes. For some, long-term care insurance is probably the most efficient method to cover this growing expense. Effective planning can take the burden off family members as well as protect your assets.

 Who Should Participate

Thinking about and planning for care for yourself or a loved one when they are young and active and do not require that type of care is difficult to imagine for most people. We do not like not like to think of ourselves or loved ones requiring care such as this. However, timing is key for long-term care insurance.
Planning for a time when long-term care is required makes that time less stressful for everyone. Long-term care insurance premiums are based on the age of the covered person at the time of the purchase – the younger they are, the lower the annual premiums will be.
